Moving Obstacles
A wise colleague of mine once said that the key to achieving your goal (or reaching an end destination) was to think about all the obstacles that are blocking the way… and finding a way to remove them.
Sounds like pretty simple stuff.
Lately, I’ve felt like I’ve been in a bit of a rut. As an aspiring writer, I haven’t written anything in a long time. One of my other problems is my penchant for collecting small pet projects. I want to create a website. I want to write a short story. I want to revamp my personal website. I want to devote some time to make a special wedding gift for my future husband…and the list goes on. And of course, none of those things have moved forward.
I started thinking about all the different things that have been holding me back and I realized that it all came down to feeling incredibly scattered. Where do I devote my energies first? Instead of taking one step at a time, I already feel daunted by the road ahead.
And I also realized that one of the other biggest problems was excuses.
I didn’t want to write blog posts because I don’t like the way my current website looks. I don’t want to write on Tumblr because I’m not quite happy with the way THAT looks. On and on it goes…
But tonight I decided that it was finally time to stop. Ugly or not, I’m going to write. Scattered or not, I’m going to start taking steps.
